edition.
Regarding computing, EXCEL,
STATA and a calculator will be indispensable as the course
develops. STATA is a comprehensive software
appropriate for basic statistical analysis in this course.
STATA can be downloaded from the
University website. Google search Georgetown University – On The Hub and follow the instructions for downloading.
Recitations:
Recitations are mandatory and constitute a great
tool to support the learning process of students. They will be conducted by the
Teaching Assistants and the Instructor will attend some of them.
Attendance is checked regularly and TAs will notify the instructor of outstanding
contributions made by students. This information will be used to determine
grades on the margin.
1. Problem Sets: There will
be a number of problem sets assigned. However, only
the first one will be graded and will be worth ten (10) points. You are
expected to complete all of the other problem sets,
and you will be tested on this material. Working on problems is really the
only way to learn the material in this course.
2. Quizzes. During the
semester, there will be a total of three (3) quizzes, each worth five (5)
points. The dates are on the course outline. The total point allocated to
quizzes will be fifteen (15).
3.
Exams: There
will be two midterm exams worth fifty (50) points each on the date specified on
the course outline. The final
exam is worth sixty-five (65) points and will be cumulative. Make-up exams will only be allowed
for serious medical or personal problems, and documentation is required.
4.
Class Participation: Class Participation is worth 5 points.
You are expected to attend and participate in all class meetings. Attendance
will be taken and counted towards your class participation grade. Leaving in
the middle of class will be counted as an absence.
